Photo Retouching
With the tools we now have on our computers, what is achievable in restoring, adding to or subtracting from photographs is remarkable. Almost anything is possible given enough time. One thing to bear in mind is that a fix that seems difficult can be quite easy and, sometimes something that looks easy is actually quite hard. Often I can’t tell until I start with various techniques to see what may or may not work. The bottom line is, if you have a photograph that needs work of any kind, I can give a good estimate of time and expected results before any commitment is made.
The image on the left was unfortunately fixed with the wrong chemicals and over the course of several years ended up with all of the discolouring you can see in the scanned photo. I removed the orange and red colouring with various selection and filtering plugins and made the entire image a sepia tone which was closer to the original before it became discoloured. I then went in and cleaned up the worst of the blotches to get it back to something more presentable. That was important to me because the little girl is my daughter!
This piece was used for a client giveaway during the summer months in Winnipeg. We liked the image but wanted to use our corporate colours and make the water look more like a lake than an ocean. There was a lot of colour correcting but, since ViewSource is a design firm, we had to get it just right! This one was tricky but also a lot of fun.
This image adjustment was needed when there was a change of staff with one of the clients at ViewSource. I removed the employee that left and added the new arrival. This saved them the expense of getting the team together for a new photoshoot.
